It’s hard as a parent to see your little one suffering when she’s come down with the flu or a cold. You would do anything in your power to take the pain away and soothe your child as best you can. If you’ve already taken your child to the doctor and are giving her medicine to help ease her symptoms, here are a couple of other tricks you can try to make her feel better until her sickness goes away completely.

  1. Keep her in comfy PJs

Have your child put on her coziest, softest pajamas so she can feel super comfy as she lays in bed. Scratchy materials are not going to make her feel any better so something luxurious like Bamboo Footed Pajamas from Silkberry Baby are going to feel wonderful against her skin.

  1. Homemade soup

Nothing can make you feel better than a warm bowl of homemade chicken soup when you’re down with a cold. The homemade aspect makes it taste so good and the warmth of the soup is very soothing. Some studies even suggest that it can help with congestion and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

  1. Lots of fluids

Make sure your child drinks lots of fluids to help thin out the mucus so she can get rid of it easier. If your child has a sore throat and refuses to drink water, try offering her an ice pop which will numb her throat and still keep her hydrated. Babies under 6 months should stick to breast milk and formula.

  1. Hand her a lovey

A favorite toy or lovey might be the first thing your little one reaches for when she is feeling under the weather. These toys provide a sense of security and comfort and will help keep her entertained while she stays in bed all day.

  1. Run a humidifier

Having a humidifier in your child’s room keeps the air in the room moist will will help with your child’s congested nose so she can breathe easier. Just don’t keep the humidity too high and always keep the humidifier clean.

  1. Give her a bath

Giving your child a nice warm bath can be incredibly soothing. It is often associated with a bedtime routine so it can help her fall asleep easier if this is something she is having trouble with. The steam will also help open up her passages to clear her congestion. Then make sure to have some cuddle time after!

Silkberry Baby is an organic baby clothing brand located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Developed by Carrie Shan, a mother of two young children, the range was conceived to create a baby bedding and clothing product range as her daughter had an allergic reaction to synthetic fibres. After much research, she sourced natural, eco-friendly and sustainable fibers (mulberry silk floss and bamboo) that she found to be the best natural choices available for baby and toddlers' bedding and clothing.
